Maybe Strength Needs a New Definition
Perhaps being a strong woman doesn't mean carrying everything.
Maybe strength is knowing when something has become too heavy.
Maybe strength is allowing someone else to carry part of the load.
Maybe strength is setting boundaries.
Maybe strength is resting.
Maybe strength is crying.
Maybe strength is going to counseling.
Maybe strength is saying no without writing a paragraph explaining why.
Maybe strength is finally deciding:
βI matter, too.β
Because you do.
You were somebody before you became everybody else's caretaker.
Before motherhood.
Before marriage.
Before the career.
Before caregiving.
Before everyone learned they could depend on you.
There was you.
And she still deserves attention.
She still deserves compassion.
She still deserves support.
She still deserves healing.
She still deserves love.
So the next time someone tells you:
βYou're such a strong woman.β
Smile.
Receive the compliment.
But remember:
Being strong does not mean you have to suffer silently.
You have carried people through their seasons.
You have helped people survive theirs.
Perhaps this season is finally about you.
Who takes care of the strong woman?
Maybe it's time for the answer to be:
βI doβand I'm finally allowing others to help me, too.β
